Weekend Rides

We have a range of weekend social rides to suit different cycling abilities, with different distances, routes and paces. New riders are always welcome. Rides are generally posted on the club Facebook pages in the week preceding the ride.

Saturday Rides

Social Ride

This ride is led by a different, experienced club member each week.

It is ridden at a leisurely pace of around 12-14 mph, and is intended for beginners, new members, those returning to cycling after a lay-off, or those just wanting an easier ride. Nobody gets left behind!

Most weeks the start point is Gyffin car park at 9am (behind the corner shop in the centre of the village) and the most popular ride is down the east side of the Conwy valley to Betws-y-Coed via Dolgarrog and Trefriw – a 29 mile ride. However, other start locations and routes are used on occasion: keep an eye on the Facebook pages!

Intermediate Ride

Generally faster than the ‘Social Ride’, this ride is also led by an experienced club member each week, on a rota basis.

Ride length can be anywhere from 40 to 100 miles, but usually somewhere in the middle of that range. Like the Beginners’ Ride, the default starting location is Gyffin car park at 9am, but other start locations are also used – see the Facebook pages.

Routes vary widely: all over Snowdonia, onto Anglesey, East or West along the coast or into the Clwydian range. A café stop is almost always included on these rides, and options are available for those not wanting to do the full distance, as posted on Facebook.

Ladies Ride

For those lady members who prefer (mainly) female company, keep an eye on the Facebook pages, where some of our female members occasionally post rides. Routes and distances are adjusted to suit those turning up for the ride, although distances are usually less than those for the intermediate rides.

Valley Ride

A few senior members ride most Saturday mornings starting at 9am at the junction of Bangor Road (A547) & Cadnant Park. All depends on the weather – if it’s raining we don’t ride.

We collect other riders at the Caerhun layby on the left just past Caerhun cemetery on the B5106 Conwy to Dolgarrog road. We meet at the layby at 9.30am.

All welcome to join. The ride to Betws-y-Coed is at a leisurely pace with a cafe stop in Betws-y-Coed before returning to our start point.

Eirias Easy Riders

January 2022, As the Old Colwyn end of the Promenade is temporarily closed we now meet at 9am weather permitting most Saturdays.

Colwyn Leisure Centre
Eirias Park
Colwyn Bay
LL29 7SP

Each week the route is decided by those who turn up. For Park & Ride use the various car parks near the Leisure Centre.

The ‘Aim’ of these rides is to ride socially and sensibly on quiet roads and lanes. The routes vary from 35 to 60+ miles, with a cafe stop at approximately half the route distance.

Average pace approx 12mph, so easy for some and challenging for others.

Sunday Rides

These are on an ad hoc basis, posted by different club members on the Facebook pages.

Routes and distances will sometimes be posted in advance; other times, the ride will be agreed on the day by those turning up.

We ride all over Snowdonia National Park and along the North Wales coast line. Some times we will ride to Anglesey. If you have a suggestion for a Sunday ride, please suggest it on Facebook.
